How TankLogix Achieved both SOC 1 and SOC 2 Compliance

Oilfield automation leader TankLogix partnered with Workstreet to navigate complex security requirements and achieve both SOC 1 and SOC 2.

TankLogix provides solutions for oilfield automation. The business has been around since 2003 and is one of the largest controls and automation providers across the Permian Basin.

Beyond being one of the largest providers, TankLogix’s General Manager Gary Wilson wanted to make it one of the most trusted too. That meant pursuing both SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports.

The Challenge: Navigating Industrial Cybersecurity Fears

TankLogix’s push for compliance came from a mix of internal aspiration and external requirements from  partners.

“We work in the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and oilfield services industry and face the security challenges, consumer fears and challenges, along with our own desire to make our systems as secure and safe to use as possible,” says Gary. “Some of our partners wanted us to have SOC 1 Type 2. Some wanted us to have Soc 2 Type 1.”

The Solution: A Manageable Path to Dual Compliance

Achieving both SOC 1 and SOC 2 simultaneously is a heavy lift for any organization. TankLogix partnered with Workstreet to streamline the process.

“Workstreet was instrumental in helping our team achieve both SOC 1 and SOC 2 compliance,” Gary explains. “They supported us from initial setup through ongoing maintenance, and their team was knowledgeable, responsive, and professional throughout the process.”

The Result: Peace of Mind and Faster Onboarding

For TankLogix, SOC compliance quickly translated into business value. “It provides customers peace of mind and helps keep their cyber insurance as low as possible,” says Gary.

SOC compliance has also removed friction that could previously stall deals, meaning a quicker path to revenue. "It helps fast-track onboarding of new customers who have SOC requirements,” explains Gary.

Advice: Don’t Underestimate the Timeline

If Gary Wilson could give one piece of advice to other leaders thinking about compliance, it would be to start the process as soon as possible.

“Start sooner,” Gary advises. “Building the right processes, gathering evidence, and aligning controls takes more time than expected, and beginning earlier would have made the overall compliance effort much smoother and less stressful.”
