NIST CSF FAQs

Common questions about NIST CSF 2.0

NIST released CSF 2.0 in February 2024. It added a sixth function, Govern, expanded guidance on cybersecurity supply chain risk management and broadened the framework's intended audience beyond critical infrastructure to organizations of every size and sector.

Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover. Govern covers strategy, roles and policy and informs the other five, which cover understanding risk, safeguarding assets, detecting and responding to incidents and restoring operations afterward.

No. NIST CSF is voluntary and there is no official certification. Organizations show alignment by documenting their current and target profiles and the progress between them. We help you document that alignment so customers, boards and auditors can review it.

CSF describes security outcomes, while SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are audited frameworks. They overlap substantially, so one well-designed set of controls can support all three. We map your controls once and reuse the evidence across frameworks instead of running separate projects.

Organizational Profiles describe your current and target cybersecurity outcomes. Tiers, from Partial to Adaptive, describe how rigorous your risk governance and management practices are. Together they show where you are, where you want to be and what to prioritize next.
