FedRAMP FAQs

Common questions about FedRAMP Certification

FedRAMP 20x is FedRAMP's newer, automation-focused certification model built around Key Security Indicators. Its submission pipeline opened in August 2026 under the Consolidated Rules for 2026. FedRAMP will stop accepting new Rev5 Certifications on June 11, 2027, and existing Rev5 Certifications remain active until at least December 31, 2028. Until June 11, 2027, new Rev5 Certifications are available through Agency Certification, which requires an agency to authorize the service first. We support both paths.

FedRAMP now grants Certification Classes (A–D) based on the level of assurance a provider supplies. Class A is an entry-level tier that replaces FedRAMP Ready, Class B is the updated version of Low and Class C replaces Moderate, though the classes don't map one-for-one to the old levels. Rev5 Class D (formerly High) is available today through Agency Certification, and FedRAMP 20x plans a Class D pilot in late 2026, with a formal option in early 2027. The right class depends on your service and your agency customers. We help you decide early.

It can. FedRAMP 20x Class A requires a SOC 2 Type II, GovRAMP or FedRAMP Rev5 (including FedRAMP Ready) assessment completed within the past 12 months. Beyond Class A, many SOC 2 controls overlap with FedRAMP requirements, so we map what you already have before building anything new.

It depends on your target class, the maturity of your current controls, the size of your system boundary and assessor availability. Rather than quote a one-size-fits-all number, we give you a realistic roadmap after a gap assessment, then keep the work moving with your team.

No. The independent assessment is performed by a FedRAMP Recognized independent assessment service. Workstreet gets you ready for it: we build the program and documentation, organize evidence, coordinate with your assessor and help you close any findings.
